Sick Axolotl.
Hey guys,
Well Bud (wildtype axolotl) is sick. He has Fungus on one of his gills but don't worry he should be fine I just thought I would post a thread about it. He is in the fridge now for the next week and will get salt baths twice a day as well until it is cleared up. The salt baths will kill the fungus and keeping him in the fridge will actually boost his immune system believe it or not!
This is the second time Bud has gotten Fungus and I have had him 8 months. I will have had Bob for a year next month but he has never gotten Fungus at all.
Anyway I just thought I would tell you that he is ill but should be back to full health in no time.

RE: Sick Axolotl.
yeah it slows their metabolism and helps to boost their immune system but it can't be below 4C. Ideally their tank should be about 10C up to I think 20-22 and mine is at the upper end simply because of the other tanks in the room I think although I think maybe the external thermometer is reading it wrong, I will put in the digital one now and check exactly what temp I keep them at but I think it is about 18-20...

Digital thermometer reads 20.6 and the external reads 18-20 So yeah I am on the high side but there is no heater and a low wattage filter to minimise the heat it generates.

RE: Sick Axolotl.
Fungus was actually gone this morning after just one salt bath last night. I will put him back in the tank tomorrow if he looks ok as I have to go away for a birthday party this weekend.

Yup he is fine now and back in the aquarium. He was only in the fridge and getting salt baths for three days.
