Guppies again.
Hey guys,
Well I just put one of the three heavily pregnant females into Franklin the turtles tank. I am just testing to see if I can use it as a breeding tank as well since I have no spare tanks. So far Franklin is too slow to catch the two juvies in there or even the pregnant female, this well test how fry will get on! I will update you as soon as she gives birth!

on a side note I also put one Juvie in with the axies today, so far they have not caught them but only time will tell if guppies can survive with them. I will add more next week if this one survives it.

RE: Guppies again.
I know people who keep guppies in the turtle's tank for a constant source of food. Should work out well....for Franklin. ;o)

Well so far he hasn't had much luck catching any of them... maybe he would if I let him get hungry but nah I couldn't do that!

RE: Guppies again.
Well I put loads in with the axolotls today since the one I put in last week survived and they don't even notice them as the swim, even when they are beside their heads! I put in 10+ but I am not really sure as I just kept putting in the net and transferring whatever I caught, There is also a lot more than my original estimate of 30, I would now say that there is actually 40-50 fry.
Also today one of the females in Franklins tank gave birth. I only see three fry that survived so the others must have been eaten, I now have the remaining pregnant females in a separate container and will put the fry in Franklins tank afterward.

RE: Guppies again.
The wife wants guppies as well. My only concern is with the constant live bearing, the tank would get overwhelmed. Don't mind having them, just would need an out for when their numbers get too high. She'll have to plan for that. ;o)

I'll just stick with my endlers. Surprisingly, their numbers are kept in check. Not sure who would be taking care of the fry but it would have to be either the cherry barbs or danio's.

Do endlers not breed in pretty much the same way and with the same magnitude? I have no problem with getting over run with fry. I keep them when I want them and when I don't I just leave them in the community aquarium, I would be lucky to get one survivor.

Yep...same fashion. My population hasn't exploded (which is a good thing). That's why I'm curious if other occupants are keeping the numbers in check.

RE: Guppies again.
I would imagine so, if you have males and females they are definitely breeding, there is no question about it.

RE: Guppies again.
Well a lot of the smaller fry are starting to get colour now and it seems that there is a bit of (I forget and can't find the name of this type of guppy!) the colour morph that looks like a pint of guinness (black body and tail with white head). In the guppys that are older they all have a bit of orange but none have the same colouration as eachother, some black and orange, orange and white/ clear and one seems to be developing a sworded tail like a sword tail. So obviously they were sired by more than one male from the pet store.

All the females are now heavily pregnant again but I am letting them have the fry in the community tank this time, if I see any though I will take them out and "save" them.
