Turtle guide
Here is a link where you can get the first three chapters of a turtle guide book for free. This covers basic care and is good to start off with. You also get emailed a forth chapter after a few days, although it doesn't state that it is supposed to be a surprise!

http://www.turtleguidebook.com/

I could just post upload the .pdf I got but I think it is fairer to go through the actual site as the author deserves credit and it also is probably illegal!

No problem Rose!
That little turtle wont be little for long. If it is male it will grow to about 8 inches and about 12 inches if it is femal. Also as far as I know selling one under four inches (could be two actually) in the US is illegal and mine is smaller than that.

RE: Turtle guide
I know most turtles are endangered here but they are normal wildlife in the area of the country where I live and as long as I do not keep them into eternity I could probably have one for a few weeks. It would not be my pet but perhaps fun to own for a little while. Just have to be careful not to get a "snapper". Smile

I have a friend who keeps slider turtles he catches from the local ponds here , and he has a nice 180 gal tank set up just like a pond with driftwod and all, plants etc. he also catches minnows and puts those in the water part. The turtles have a nice snack sometimes Smile it is only about half full of water to allow the turtles to get up on dry land or on a piesce of wood if they want. Really cool set up.

RE: Turtle guide
I would not have room for that type of set up. Probably they would get one of my 12s so they would not like it for long but it would give me a new friend and them a warm home for the winter probably. I live far enough from the river that it will take some doing but I can find one I am sure. But like I said around here you have to be cautious of which type you pick up. Some of them are nice little guys and some kind of ornery little fellows. I will take my neighbor with me when I go a-huntin'. She knows a turtle from a TURTLE!(eek) Big Grin

RE: Turtle guide
I was told they were smelly gunnie but mine is in my bedroom and I don't get a smell, then again that might change when he gets older! My girlfriend asked me to give him away or sell him yesterday, I said no that she didn't have to come into the room he was in if she didn't want to but he was going nowhere! Tongue
