This is a very interesting snail to have in an aquarium and is interesting to watch. It grazes on the algae in your tank and it creates infusoria from its waste which is ideal for the fry in your tank to eat. It is best to keep these snails in slightly hard water as it helps prevent their shells from getting brittle and keeps them hard. They also do not like bad water quality and ideally regular water changes should be carried out. They also eat scalded lettuce leaves but I feed mine with the dried lettuce that comes in most rabbit foods as after a few minutes in the water it becomes soft.
Breeding this snail is very easy in your aquarium. The snail climbs above the water and lays pink eggs on top of each other on the aquarium glass. Provided the eggs do no dry out they should hatch within three weeks and then make their own way into the aquarium water. These snails can reach up to seven centimetres in size.
